Besides Books – Part II

My sister, who lives in the USA, has recently discovered the artiste in her. So is my nephew. Both of them thought that my room was barren, and so they decided to fill it with their artworks, which are about animals and books. I wake up to an explosion of colours in my room these days. And, I am really, really loving it. ๐Ÿ™‚

Shravan — my nine-year-old nephew — painted these cute magnets for me.

IMG_20151105_095049ย When I finished reading Charlotte’s Web, I was so obsessed with the book, I couldn’t stop raving about it. So, my sister dedicated thisย to EB White, one of my favourite writers.

Here is my favourite passage from the book:
โ€œDo you understand how there could be any writing in a spider’s web?”
“Oh, no,” said Dr. Dorian. “I don’t understand it. But for that matter I don’t understand how a spider learned to spin a web in the first place. When the words appeared, everyone said they were a miracle. But nobody pointed out that the web itself is a miracle.”
“What’s miraculous about a spider’s web?” said Mrs. Arable. “I don’t see why you say a web is a miracle-it’s just a web.”
“Ever try to spin one?” asked Dr. Dorian.โ€

My sister painted Calvin’s portrait before he passed away. I can’t bring myself to change the tense. โค I heart both of these. Heffalump much!

This is how my room looks now. I delight in these colours. But most of all, I love them because they are meaningful and personal.

  1. Oh Em Geee – how cute is that! Loved every painting / work of art and the context of in which they were done. The thought that has gone into making each shows the love.

    1. Thank you, Caroline. ๐Ÿ™‚ My nephew crestfallen for two days after he read the book. I could get cheered up in a couple of hours. But, it does make us sad. More bittersweet, I should say. ๐Ÿ™‚ If you read, I would love to hear your thoughts.
