An Unplanned Break

jurassic-parkIt’s been a week since I wordpressed anything. 🙂 I am on an unplanned, but welcoming break from work. I am starting a new job in a couple of days, and so I chose to spend some time with the family. I didn’t do a lot of reading, although I intended to. I finished reading Jurassic Park. A friend passionately recommended the book, and I loved reading it. I haven’t read a lot of typical page-turners. For reasons that I can’t comprehend, I avoided reading such books. Perhaps, I should try a couple of more books soon. What are your favourite page-turners? Please share your thoughts.

Also, an incredibly satisfying thing is happening. One of my dogs – Boo, a rescued mongrel, who used to be petrified of roads and walks, owing to a trauma – has now learned to walk on leash. Thanks to her, I have also been walking a lot with her.

For a couple of days, I had a digital detox. I filled those empty hours by watching some movies: Furious 7, Avengers: Age of Ultron, a Hindi film called Queen, and Gone Girl. While I liked the first two films, I loved the last two. Queen was uplifting. Soul-stretching. Gone Girl was great too. Beautifully cuckoo in its own way. But, I am a book-loyalist. I still love the book more.

I am going to begin Neil Gaiman’s Neverwhere tonight. I love his works, and so I am looking forward to devouring it. I shall try sharing my thoughts soon.

And, I would like to share a couple of my favourite passages from Jurassic Park. I never knew that book had some thought-provoking quotes. I was really judgmental, wasn’t I? 😉

“And that’s how things are. A day is like a whole life. You start out doing one thing, but end up doing something else, plan to run an errand, but never get there. . . . And at the end of your life, your whole existence has the same haphazard quality, too. Your whole life has the same shape as a single day.”

“Because the history of evolution is that life escapes all barriers. Life breaks free. Life expands to new territories. Painfully, perhaps even dangerously. But life finds a way.”

  1. Enjoy your break! 🙂 It’s lovely that you can take long walks with Boo now.
I actually read The Lost World by Chrichton -I was obsessed with dinosaurs! – and really liked it, never read book 1 though.
The Gone Girl adaptation is pretty cool. I think I might watch the new Avengers as well, if you recommend it.

  2. Page turners?

    The Terminal Man – Crichton
The Da Vinci Code (Dan Brown)
    Jaws – Peter Benchley

Queen – yes, a movie which didn’t follow the beaten track – loved it.
Started on “The Lesson” by Sowmya Rajendran – gripping, if somewhat chilling.
